How We Help

01

Assessment & Framework Engagement

Diagnose the sources of underperformance, define the desired outcomes, and build a phased framework for achieving them.

AOPG helps leaders identify the causes of performance gaps, establish priorities, and build a deliberate framework for improvement—defining what needs to happen, in what order, and how success will be measured.
02

Implementation Advising & Support

Coach and advise the leaders and employees responsible for executing the established framework.

AOPG supports those responsible for the work as they put the framework into action. Advising and coaching help leaders navigate obstacles, assess progress, make necessary adjustments, and maintain focus on the desired outcomes. The client retains responsibility for execution.
03

Executive Advising

Work directly with leaders who need an experienced, objective advisor on organizational and personnel performance issues.

Executive advising is integrated throughout AOPG engagements and is also available as a stand-alone service. Leaders can use AOPG as a trusted partner when evaluating difficult organizational or personnel issues, considering alternatives, making decisions, or determining the best path forward.
04

Tailored Engagements

Every AOPG engagement is thoughtfully designed around your unique needs, priorities, and intended outcomes rather than a standardized approach.

Our work is driven by the information and understanding required to responsibly define the engagement to achieve your intended outcomes; not by a standardized template applied to all circumstances.  Recommended services will align with the breadth, depth, and level of engagement you request.

How We Work

Performance gaps exist in most organizations and high performing departments or units don’t happen by accident. They are built by leaders who are able and willing to see clearly what’s working, what isn’t, and what needs to change.

AOPG’s approach is to help leaders untangle what is causing the gaps between current and desired performance. Our first step is seeing the whole and complex picture clearly.

AOPG helps examines organizational performance through six dimensions:

  • Foundational and Operational Infrastructure
  • Organizational Structure and Alignment
  • Operational and Business Processes
  • Leadership Capacity
  • Employee Performance Assessment, Improvement, Development, and Management
  • Policies and Practices

Performance problems rarely exist neatly within a single dimension. The problem may be rooted in the unit's structure, employee performance, leadership, processes, infrastructure, or several conditions working together. Seeing the connections is essential to knowing where the work should begin.

AOPG uses a deliberate, adaptable approach to guide that work. We help our clients do the right work, in the right order, and at the right time.

Experience Provides Perspective

Dr. Deb Ayres brings five decades of experience in education, organizational leadership, human resources, and executive leadership to AOPG. Her career has spanned roles from teacher and principal to doctoral faculty member, department chair, and senior vice president of human resources, working with governing boards, executives, managers, and employees across organizations.

Deb views organizations as interconnected systems where people, leadership, structure, processes, technology, and resources must work together. She helps leaders look beyond immediate challenges to identify underlying conditions, strengthen organizational foundations, develop high-performing teams, and create frameworks for sustained improvement.

Deb’s work is grounded in a simple belief: sustainable high performance requires leaders who are able and willing to see clearly, make difficult decisions, and do the right work in the right order.

Impact of Our Work

“
I've worked closely with Deb Ayres for many years, and she is one of the best HR executives I've worked with. She has real subject-matter expertise, and she is also a strong listener who understands the people and the problem before she recommends a solution. I've watched her build high-performing teams, untangle broken processes with a clear framework built around priorities, and coach leaders to strengthen succession across the organization. When we faced difficult institutional and staffing decisions, Deb brought integrity, professional courage, and the grit to see them through. She meets her deadlines, keeps her word, and adds value to every organization she serves. Any leader who wants to understand why a unit is underperforming and how to fix it would be fortunate to have her in their corner.

Dr. Ayres has a remarkable ability to balance the needs of an organization with the needs of its employees. She is knowledgeable, responsive, and always focused on finding practical solutions that support both the institution and its people. What I valued most was her willingness to challenge the status quo and look beyond the traditional way of doing things. She consistently brought innovative ideas and solutions to the table and was not afraid to ask the tough questions or challenge leadership to consider a bolder, better direction.

She has a unique ability to take complex issues, see opportunities where others may see obstacles, and turn new ideas into practical strategies that move an organization forward. Her thoughtful approach, strong business acumen, and genuine commitment to employees made her an exceptional partner.

Beyond her expertise, Dr. Ayres is the kind of leader and business partner people genuinely enjoy working with. I have no doubt that she will bring that same combination of insight, innovation, courage, and collaboration to her consulting work. Any organization looking for a strategic partner who will challenge conventional thinking and help them move confidently toward what’s next would be fortunate to work with her.
